About Heuchera Coral Forest

These beautiful plants are simple to grow with attractive foliage appearing in tidy mounds. The vibrant coral-red bells of Heuchera Coral Forest sit along the 12-15’ stems. The plants should be put in the front of the border for better view of the flowers. These stalks are a bit shorter than other varieties of Heuchera helping them stay upright. Heuchera Coral Forest blooms heavily in June and July, and will keep sending a few flower stalks up most of the summer. The hummingbirds really love them. It’s one of their favorite plants in my garden. Washington State University lists Heuchera as a deer resistant plant.

Planting and Growing Heuchera

Make sure your Heuchera “harden off” to cool nights and windy conditions before planting. This requires leaving them outside in a protected area for a few days otherwise, they may wilt after planting. Choose an area that is partly shady to sunny. Prepare your planting hole by turning the soil at least a shovel size deep and wide and be sure the hole is filled with plenty of organic matter for best results. Remove your plant from its pack and gently loosen the root ball. Plant deep enough to cover the top of the root ball. Press down firmly on the soil and then water it in. Consider fertilizing once or twice a season. You can mulch if you like but not too close to the plant to avoid rot. Remove spent blooms to encourage more flowering.
